The Fellowship is intended to foster the academic careers of recent Ph.D’s and to allow the revision of the dissertation for publication, or for research on a new project. The Postdoctoral Fellow is expected to be in residence during the entire term. They will give a public lecture on their research as part of the Center for Chinese Studies Colloquium Series, and they are expected to take part in all regular Center for Chinese Studies events and workshops. The Postdoctoral Fellow will contribute to the intellectual life of the Center, for example, serving as moderator or discussant for lectures. The Fellow will be provided with office space, library privileges and a salary that starts at $55,632, plus benefits, but may vary depending on experience.

Letter Confirming Expected Date of Conferral – Candidates who do not yet hold a PhD but expect to by the start date should supply a letter from their home institution confirming their schedule to completion.
A certified copy of their Ph.D. certificate will be required before the appointment can go into effect. (Optional)

All application materials, including letters of recommendation, must be submitted through AP Recruit(link is external) by January 15, 2023. Hardcopy, faxed or emailed applications will not be accepted. Please direct any questions to ccs@berkeley.edu(link sends e-mail).
All letters of recommendation will be treated as confidential per University of California policy and California state law. Please refer potential referees, including when letters are provided via a third party (i.e., dossier service or career center), to the UC Berkeley statement of confidentiality(link is external).
Only complete applications will be considered. It is the applicant’s responsibility to ensure that all documentation is complete and that referees submit their letters of recommendation by the closing date. Awards will be announced in late March 2023.
